I have just come home from my eikaiwa to find a bag on my porch. Had I been in London, I may well have called the police. But, taking the risk, I took the bag inside, opened it, only to find a belated Christmas/birthday/new year present!
One of the lovely ladies in the village bought me a ju-bako, a Japanese dish box. I’ve actually wanted one of my own ever since I saw families with theirs full of interesting foods at the village sports day.
Unfortunately, mine was empty, but she did make me some of the tastiest chocolate sponge I have ever eaten. So I will let her off…
This comes after a day of getting mini-treats at school. The head and deputy-head gave all the staff presents from a local shrine, and one of the teachers got me a bottle of olive oil from Barcelona. She went all the way to Spain just for 3 days! Why not.
